The Department of Anesthesia and Intensive Care at Sant Parmanand Hospital was started in 1997 and from a nascent faculty of 6 Consultants it has grown and now comprises 10 Consultants which brings a wealth of varied clinical experience and a rich skill set to the field. The department provides 24 x 7 consultant based coverage for Trauma & Emergency Services and also for the two Intensive Care Units of the Hospital. It provides a zero response time for the Acute Pain Service and for one of the most active labor analgesia program in Delhi. The consultants in the Anesthesia Department have different fields of interest and complement each other in providing state-of-the-art facilities for a plethora of surgical specialties and super-specialties. These include, but are not limited to, Trauma & Joint replacement surgeries, Minimal Access Surgery, Ophthalmology, Paediatric-Surgery, Neuro-Surgery and Plastic & Re-constructive Surgery. The backup of the surgical ICU, its cutting edge equipment and the availability of an in-house consultant anesthetist allows the conduct of complicated and extensive surgeries in very challenging cases.
The Department Headed by Dr. B. N. Seth (M.D.), (Director/ HOD). He has a wealth of experience of more than 36 Years in this specialty in various hospital and nursing home in India.
He has a special experience in Fibro-optic bronchoscopy and difficult airway Management and specialist in percutaneous Tracheostomy apart from experience in various field of Anesthesiology and Critical Care.

The Anesthesia Department facilitates the safe conduct of more than 6000 in-house surgeries in the various operation theaters at Sant Parmanand Hospital. These include more than 400 joint replacement surgeries in a year. It actively participates with the department of Obstetrics & Gynecology & provides services for labor analgesia for more than 100 patients per year.
The department conducts an active in-house academic session on a regular basis. The faculty believes in keeping up to date & participates in various fora & conferences both as delegates & invited faculty. The recent addition to the department has been the establishment of a Day Care facility which allows for ambulatory surgical services ensuring maximal patient comfort and rapid turnover enabling optimal utilization of hospital beds. The department also provides Acute Pain Services to the entire post-operative patients.
The department has been accredited since August 2009 for conducting teaching & training program by the Diplomat of National Board (DNB).
