Operation Theatre Complex

There are 4 ultra-modern Operation theatres.  These have prefabricated, seamless stainless steel walls.  In addition they are coated with special anti-bacterial paint which has bactericidal and virucidal properties effective up to 99%.

The laminar air-flow system in the operating theatre is designed to ensure that the area where the patient and the surgical team are working is rendered bacteria free.  After passing through the HEPA filter the ventilation system forces air under pressure so that it flows from the surgical area towards special suction ducts set in the wall of the operation theatre.

The High Efficiency Particulate Arresting (HEPA) filter is designed to trap particles of the size of 0.3 microns or more with a 99.07% efficiency.  This ensures that the air in the operation theatres is free of dust, moulds, bacteria and even viruses.

The anti-static flooring prevents build-up of static charges.  This protects the patient by ensuring that the electrical equipment is always grounded and also prevents aggregation of dust at the floor level. Automated doors ensure a no-touch transition between the scrub areas to the operating suite. Sensors activate to open the special doors which are designed to hermetically seal the operating theatre.

The 4 theatres are fully equipped to cater to the needs of all surgical specialties .This includes, but is not limited to, state-of-the-art monitors and anesthesia machines .This helps to increase the safety envelope for the patient. In addition the medical gases are supplied from a gas manifold, under the strictest of supervision, by means of a central pipeline system to all the operating theatres and the post-operative recovery areas.

The 7 bedded state of the art Surgical ICU is an integral part of the O.T. complex.  It plays a vital role in stabilizing the peri- operative patient, including providing critical care after major surgical intervention & extended care for the trauma patient. Protocol oriented management  helps minimize infections and aids recovery.  This is due to the excellent staff and the efforts of the Intensive Care team which provides round-the-clock in-house cover for the facility. The SICU has an exemplary record for turning around peri -operative patients. The generous equipment level of the SICU includes multi-parameter monitors which allow invasive monitoring and real-time cardiac-output assessment. There are facilities for providing non-invasive and invasive ventilatory support. Motorised beds with air-mattresses allow easy in positioning critically ill patients and adjuncts like  calf pumps help to decrease post-operative morbidity.

DAY CARE / SHDU >>

  • The O.T. complex , in addition, also has the dedicated 7 bedded Day Care unit.  It is staffed and  streamlined to allow fast – tracking of patients suitable for day care protocol  based surgery.

  • This allows patients to spend minimal time in the hospital for planned surgery, thereby , disrupting to a minimum  their  busy schedules, and a resultant  saving on cost to the patient.

The 12 bedded Medical ICU is located on the 3rd floor of the hospital.  It has six beds each dedicated to critical care and coronary care  and facilities for providing care in isolation  to selected patients.  It has a full compliment of equipment including, but not limited to, non – invasive and invasive ventilators, multi-parameter  monitors link to a dedicated Central Nurses console.  Centrally  piped medical gases, including vacuum are supplied to the facility.  There is a  round-the-clock cover by an Intensivist to support the work of dedicated staff nurses and the resident medical officers in attendance.

The Department of Critical Care at the Sant Parmanand Hospital works out of the two dedicated Intensive Care Units comprising of 20 beds.  The post-operative and acutely traumatized patients are managed in the 7-bedded Surgical ICU. Medically complicated patients are cared for in the separate 12 bedded  Medical ICU of which 6 beds are dedicated to the Coronary Care Unit.

Both the ICU’s are equipped with state of the art monitors including invasive pressure monitoring, as well as twelve lead ECG, pulse oximetry, temperature, End-tidal CO2 and cardiac output measurement  with a real time link through the local area network to the central monitoring console.  The unit uses the latest ventilators for patients requiring ventilator  support.  Facilities for non invasive Bi PAP are also available in the ICU. Inter and intra-hospital transport of critically ill patients is facilitated by the use of transport ventilator and monitoring.

In addition to the nursing personnel, the ICU staff comprises experienced Medical Officers on duty round-the-clock with the back up of  a vastly experienced Department of Critical Care providing a full time in- house Consultant  who is also responsible for intra - and inter – hospital transport for investigation and interventions.
